Toubkal Circuit Via Lake Ifni – 6-Day Trek in Morocco

The Toubkal Circuit Trek offers an unforgettable 6-day adventure through the stunning Atlas Mountains, where you’ll experience breathtaking views and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Berber villages. From day one, you’ll witness the daily life of the Berber people, from their terraced farms to caring for livestock. This challenging itinerary requires early mornings and long days of trekking, moving from camp to camp. However, the effort is well worth it, with remarkable photo opportunities, especially from the summit of Jebel Toubkal (4167m). After each day’s trek, unwind in cozy village cafés with a refreshing mint tea or relax by the crystal-clear waters of Lac D’Ifni (2295m).

Day 01 :

Marrakech → Imlil → Tacheddirt (5 hours)

We depart Marrakech after breakfast and drive to Imlil, passing through Asni. Imlil, a lively market town, serves as the main trailhead for trekkers. Upon arrival, we meet our mule team, load our gear, and start our walk towards Tacheddirt, 8km from Imlil. The trail gradually ascends as we reach the Tizi n'Tamatert pass (2,279m). We descend into the village of Ouaneskra and continue for another half-hour to Tacheddirt (2,300m), where we camp near the river.

Day 02 :

Tacheddirt → Azib Likemt (6/7 hours)

We cross the valley and begin a long, gradual ascent towards Tizi Likemt pass (3,555m). The terrain is tough, with loose scree underfoot. From the top, we enjoy our first stunning view of the Toubkal massif. Afterward, we descend to Azib Likemt village, where we camp for the night.
Total trekking time: 6/7 hours.

Day 03 :

Azib Likemt → Tizi n'Ourai → Amsouzert (7 hours)

Today's trek takes us through varied landscapes, beginning with a climb to Tizi n'Ououraine (3,120m). The views of the Toubkal massif, including the summit and the Ifni Dome (3,876m), are incredible. We continue on to Amsouzert, one of the most picturesque villages in the region, where we stay in a simple village Gite.

Day 04 :

Amsouzert → Ifni Lake (4-5 hours)

We explore small villages west of Amsouzert before heading towards Ifni Lake, the only lake in the massif. Surrounded by rocky mountains, the lake offers a stunning view, and we will spend the afternoon relaxing by its shores. We camp near the lake.

Day 05 :

Ifni Lake → Nelter Hut (6-7 hours)

Having acclimatized, we now tackle the hardest day of the trek. We ascend a steep, scree-filled path to the Tizi n'Ouanoums pass (3,664m), a narrow ledge between two rock formations. From here, we descend to Nelter Hut, a mountain refuge where we will either stay inside or camp outside.

Day 06 :

Mt. Toubkal Summit → Imlil (9-10 hours)

We begin before dawn, following a well-established route to the summit of Mt. Toubkal. With favorable conditions, the ascent takes 2 to 3 hours. At the summit, we take in panoramic views of the Atlas range and the Marrakech plains. Afterward, we descend via the villages of Sidi Chamharouch and Aremd, following the Mizane River to Imlil. We then drive back to Marrakech at the end of the day.
